Emoni Narawa Renews Contract with Chiefs and New Zealand Rugby
Emoni Narawa, the One-Test All Black, has renewed his contract with the Chiefs and New Zealand Rugby, securing his future with the franchises until the end of 2026.
The 24-year-old winger, who scored a try on debut against Argentina in Mendoza last year, faced a challenging 2023 season as he grappled with back injuries that ultimately sidelined him from the Rugby World Cup. However, Narawa has since bounced back, returning in round five against the Highlanders and going on to cross the line for eight tries in just six Super Rugby Pacific appearances.
In a significant development for the Chiefs and potentially the All Blacks, Narawa has recommitted to a new deal, joining fellow backline stars Shaun Stevenson and Etene Nanai-Seturo in solidifying their futures with the franchise.
“It is fantastic that Emoni has recommitted to the Gallagher Chiefs for the next few years,” said coach Clayton McMillan. “He has always had massive potential, and it has been a real pleasure seeing that talent realised over the last few seasons, exemplified by his selection as an All Black in 2023.”
McMillan praised Narawa’s exceptional abilities, noting his “unbelievable ability to see space and create opportunities for himself and others.” The coach also acknowledged the pivotal role Narawa’s young family has played in his journey, providing him with stability and purpose.
Despite the setbacks of 2023, Narawa remains excited about his future with the Chiefs and New Zealand Rugby. “This club is our family and has definitely helped me become the player that I am today,” the winger expressed. “I’m really blessed and grateful for the opportunity to extend my time with the Chiefs until 2026. God is good, excited for what’s to come.”
