Securing the Turnover Crown: Edinburgh’s Jamie Ritchie Dominates the United Rugby Championship
Edinburgh’s Jamie Ritchie has been crowned the United Rugby Championship’s turnover king, amassing an impressive 22 turnovers throughout the season. The former Scotland captain surpassed Connacht’s Shamus Hurley-Langton, who finished second with 18 turnovers, and Lions flanker JC Pretorius in third with 17.
Ritchie’s outstanding performance on the pitch has earned him one of the first awards announced ahead of the semi-finals this weekend. He is joined by two other award recipients – Benetton’s Alessandro Izekor, named the URC’s tackle machine, and the Bulls’ Chris Smith, who scooped the Gilbert golden boot for his kicking success rate.
Tackle Machine and Golden Boot Award Winners
Izekor, the newly capped Italy flanker, completed an impressive 188 tackles across the season with a 98% accuracy rate, edging out Stormers lock Ruben van Heerden, who made 224 tackles at a 97% success rate. Scarlets and Scotland lock Alex Craig finished third with a 96% tackle success rate from 199 tackles.
Meanwhile, the Gilbert golden boot award went to Chris Smith of the Bulls, who maintained a 90% kicking success rate from 30 successful kicks. He bested Ulster’s John Cooney (88%) and Leinster’s Ross Byrne (87%) for the coveted accolade.

The remaining URC awards, including the player of the season, coach of the season, and the players’ player of the season, will be announced next week, ahead of the final. Additionally, the OFX top try scorer, Ironman, try of the season, Next-Gen player of the season, Elite XV, and Elixirr Innovation award winners are set to be revealed this week.
