Rugby Union News: Eddie Jones Set for Wallabies Reunion in November
According to reports from ROAR AU, former Australia national rugby union team head coach Eddie Jones is set to face his former side as part of his Japan team’s upcoming northern hemisphere tour. The match is planned to take place on November 2, a week before Joe Schmidt’s Wallabies face England at Twickenham.
Jones’ tumultuous second stint as Wallabies boss came to an end last year, with the team finishing bottom of the 2023 Rugby Championship. His decision to dramatically omit star players such as Michael Hooper, Quade Cooper and Bernard Foley from the World Cup squad was widely criticized, and the Wallabies struggled to find form, being eliminated in the pool stage for the first time in their history.
“After resigning from the Wallabies job, Jones returned to Japan, a position he had previously held from 2012 to 2015. In his comments upon being reappointed, the experienced coach expressed his excitement at the opportunity to help push Japan into the top eight or even top four rugby nations in the world.”
However, Jones has managed just one win from his first five games in charge of the Brave Blossoms since his return. The upcoming match against the Wallabies will provide an intriguing opportunity for the former Australia boss to face his former team, in what is sure to be a highly anticipated encounter.
