Cornish Pirates Bolster Ranks with Scrum-Half Signing Ahead of New Season
Penzance, England – The Cornish Pirates have announced the signing of talented Welsh scrum-half Cameron Jones, who will join the club for the upcoming rugby union season. The 23-year-old Jones, a former member of the Ospreys and Scotland U18 squads, will reunite with his ex-Edinburgh halfback partner Bruce Houston at the Mennaye Field.
“A player who has had good exposure at United Rugby Championship (URC) level, Cam has previously teamed up with Bruce whilst playing in Scotland for Edinburgh A,” said Cornish Pirates joint head coach Gavin Cattle. “Also, importantly, as a gifted young player, he is hungry to push his game on still further, and I am very much looking forward to working with him and Dan Hiscocks in the scrum-half department.”
Jones, who represented Wales at the U16 level before later playing for Scotland U18, left the Ospreys at the end of their recent campaign. The Ospreys’ head coach, Toby Booth, acknowledged the departure, stating, “This part of the season is always a tough time, especially when you have to say goodbye to players that have given a lot to the club over the years.”
The Cornish Pirates, who finished second in the Championship this past season, will be hoping Jones’ arrival can provide a boost as they seek to challenge for promotion to the England national rugby union team’s top tier. With his experience in the URC and strong partnership with Houston, the young Welsh scrum-half promises to be a valuable addition to the Cornwall-based club.
