Castleford Tigers’ Sylvester Namo Faces 5-Game Ban Following Dangerous Contact Charge
In a recent Super League disciplinary decision, Castleford Tigers’ Sylvester Namo has been handed a 5-game ban for a Grade E Dangerous Contact charge. This comes after the Operational Rules Tribunal reviewed the initial Grade F charge levied by the Match Review Panel.
The incident occurred during Castleford’s match, where Namo’s tackle led to an injury for Willie Isa, who had to be stretchered off the field. The Match Review Panel found the Papua New Guinea international guilty of “Dangerous Contact – Defender uses any part of their body forcefully to twist, bend or otherwise apply pressure to the limb or limbs of an opposing player in a way that involves an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.”
“The club will be reviewing options in detail tonight and will provide an update tomorrow.”
Despite the initial Grade F charge, which carries a potential 6-game or more suspension, the tribunal ultimately downgraded the offense to a Grade E, resulting in a 5-game ban for Namo. Additionally, the Castleford forward has been fined £750 for the incident.
In response, the Castleford Tigers club have suggested they may explore further appeal options, stating:
