Rugby League Recap: Castleford Tigers Coach Unhappy After Leeds Rhinos Trouncing
Castleford Tigers head coach Craig Lingard was left fuming after his team’s dismal 32-4 defeat to Leeds Rhinos in their Super League clash. Lingard described the Tigers’ performance as a “2 or 3 out of 10,” highlighting the team’s inconsistency this season.
“We’re either a 7 or an 8 or a 2 or 3,” Lingard told reporters. “Last week I thought we were for 60-65 minutes of the game, we were probably a 7 or an 8 and then I thought pretty much all the way through the game today we were round about that 2 or 3.”
The Tigers struggled to make an impact against a dominant Leeds side, with their only try coming in the final quarter of the game – a stark contrast to their 30-22 victory over Hull FC the previous weekend.
“We’ve got to get better,” admitted Lingard. “We’ve said all season, we’ve got a group of players that at the minute are not ready to be consistent Super League players in the top six, that’s just where we are.”
The coach pointed to the absence of key players like George Lawler, George Griffin, and Sylvester Namo as a contributing factor to the team’s struggles. He now hopes to use the upcoming Challenge Cup final break to get some bodies back and prepare for a crucial clash with Wigan Warriors.
Leeds Rhinos, on the other hand, produced a dominant performance to secure a much-needed 32-4 victory. Tries from Ash Handley, Brodie Croft, Matt Frawley, and a brace from Rhyse Martin guided the Rhinos to their first win since early May, easing the pressure on head coach Rohan Smith.
The result leaves Castleford Tigers with plenty to ponder as they look to find the consistency that has eluded them so far this season.
