Bulls Secure Home Tie in URC Play-offs with Resounding Victory over Benetton
The Vodacom Bulls have booked a home tie in the United Rugby Championship (URC) play-offs after a dominant 56-35 triumph over Benetton at Loftus Versfeld. Jake White’s side showcased their attacking prowess, scoring a total of nine tries to secure a bonus-point victory, ensuring a top-four finish with one game remaining in the regular season.
Decisive First-half Performance
The match was effectively decided within the opening 25 minutes, as Canan Moodie, David Kriel, Kurt-Lee Arendse, and Ruan Nortje all crossed the line, with Johan Goosen converting three of the tries. Moodie went on to complete a hat-trick, with Kriel, Akker van der Merwe, and Johan Grobbelaar also contributing to the Bulls’ try-scoring tally. Goosen added a conversion, while Chris Smith slotted a penalty.
Benetton’s Valiant Effort
While Benetton managed to secure a try bonus-point with scores from Onisi Ratave, Gianmarco Lucchesi, Andy Uren, Toa Halafihi, and Marco Zanon, all converted by Rhyno Smith, the Bulls’ dominant performance ensured the home side claimed a comfortable victory.
“It would have been a mistake to underestimate the much-improved Benetton side, but our team’s clinical execution and attacking flair proved too much for the visitors on the day,” said Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White.
Securing a Home Play-off Tie
The result sees the Bulls secure a home play-off tie, a significant advantage in their quest for URC glory, as they look to build on their impressive season performance.
