Saracens Stalwart and Former Argentina International Juan Figallo to Depart Club
Saracens have announced that long-serving player and former Argentina international Juan Figallo will leave the club at the end of the current campaign, seeking a new challenge. The 36-year-old tighthead prop, who was a rock in the front row for Mark McCall‘s charges during a highly successful era for Saracens, has also enjoyed a period in a coaching position.
Figallo made 96 appearances for the club between 2014 and 2020, winning three Premiership titles and three European trophies, as well as the LV= Cup. He was also a prominent forward for Argentina, earning 33 caps and playing in three World Cups (2011, 2015, 2019).
After retiring, Figallo took on a coaching role with the Saracens Women’s team, leading them to the Premier 15s title in 2022 with a memorable win over Exeter Chiefs. He has also been coaching Ampthill in the Championship, as well as the Saracens first team, showcasing his vast experience at the top level.
“10 years. I have been at Saracens for nearly a third of my life. We came as a young couple, newlyweds, and a decade later we are leaving as a family of five and a dog. I grew up here as a man, a player and most recently a coach.”
Director of rugby Mark McCall praised Figallo’s influence at Saracens, describing him as “an incredible person who is respected by everyone and will be missed by us all.” McCall acknowledged Figallo’s “enormous contribution” to the club, both as a player and a coach, and wished him and his family happiness as they return home.
This news comes as Saracens prepare to bid farewell to a stalwart of the club, who has made a significant impact on and off the field during his time at the bbc rugby union powerhouse.
