Promising Young Talents Shine Across Super League
With an abundance of young talent emerging across Super League, several teenagers have already made their mark this season. An analysis of squad lists reveals 12 players under the age of 20 who have featured in senior competitive matches for their respective clubs as of April 11, 2024.
Hull FC have tapped into their academy, with Jack Charles, Lewis Martin, and Logan Moy all earning playing time. Charles, an 18-year-old half-back, has made four appearances and kicked four goals, while winger Martin, 19, has two tries to his name. Moy, an 18-year-old utility player, debuted in Round 7.
Over at Leeds Rhinos, Alfie Edgell, 19, and Ned McCormack, 19, have also been given opportunities, with Edgell making two appearances so far this year. McCormack, a centre, earned his first senior outing in the Round 7 defeat to Warrington.
Wigan Warriors are another club nurturing young talent, including 18-year-old playmaker Jack Farrimond, who made his competitive debut at London Broncos in March, and 19-year-old forward Junior Nsemba, who scored his first Super League try away at Leigh Leopards in Round 7.
Warrington Wolves have blooded several teenagers, with Adam Holroyd, 19, and Max Wood, 19, both featuring regularly under new boss Sam Burgess. The youngest Super League player this year is Warrington winger Arron Lindop, who was 17 when he scored on his debut at Catalans in Round 1.
Salford Red Devils’ 19-year-old centre Kai Morgan has also earned his first team bow, while London Broncos handed an opportunity to academy product Joe Stocks in their Challenge Cup clash with Warrington.
These emerging stars showcase the wealth of promising young talent that exists across the rugby league landscape, with clubs unafraid to provide opportunities for the next generation to shine. As the 2024 season progresses, the performances of these teenage talents will undoubtedly be ones to watch.
