Hunslet Secure Signing of Australian Hooker Kobe Rugless Ahead of 2025 Championship Campaign
Newly-promoted Championship side Hunslet have announced the signing of Australian hooker Kobe Rugless, the son of former London Broncos player Troy Rugless, as they bolster their squad for the upcoming 2025 season.
The 23-year-old Kobe, who came through the junior ranks with the Sydney Roosters, joins the Parksiders from New South Wales Cup outfit Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles. He has 35 appearances and two tries to his name in the second-grade competition Down Under, having also played for the North Sydney Bears and Newcastle Knights’ second string.
“I can’t wait to meet all the staff and especially can’t wait to meet all the players and get stuck into training together so we can make a mark on the Championship for the season coming.”
- Kobe Rugless
With a pre-season appearance in the NRL for Manly Sea Eagles on his CV, Kobe will now follow in his father’s footsteps and ply his trade in the British rugby league game. Troy Rugless, who won numerous national boxing titles in Australia before moving into rugby league, scored four tries in 15 appearances for the London Broncos during the 1993/94 campaign.
Head Coach Praises Signing
Head coach Dean Muir praised the signing, stating:
“Kobe is a quality player and will add to our talented squad. He has the ability to play a number of different positions and fits our recruitment mould perfectly. He is young and will get better every week. It’s really exciting to see what he achieve with us this year. He is a real statement signing for the club.”
Hunslet’s Promotion to the Championship
Hunslet earned promotion from League 1 last term, finishing fourth and then winning the third tier’s play-offs before securing a unique one-off promotion/relegation final victory against Swinton Lions, who had ended the Championship campaign in 12th place.
The addition of Kobe Rugless, with his NRL experience and strong pedigree, is seen as a significant boost for Hunslet as they look to make an impact in the 2025 Championship season. Rugby league enthusiasts will eagerly follow the progress of the young Australian hooker and his new club as they navigate the challenges of the second-tier competition.
