Rugby League Superstar Herbie Farnworth Shortlisted for Prestigious Golden Boot Award

Herbie Farnworth, the dynamic Dolphins centre, has been named on the six-player shortlist for the coveted 2024 Golden Boot award. This prestigious accolade, which recognizes the standout performers in international rugby league, will be announced in early December.

The selection panel for the Golden Boot includes some of the game’s greatest players, each with over 50 international caps. This esteemed group includes England icon James Graham, Australian legend Darren Lockyer, and Petero Civoniceva, who represented both Australia and Fiji on the international stage.

Farnworth, hailing from the small village of Blacko in Lancashire, has earned his place on the shortlist following his standout performances in England’s 2-0 Test series win over Samoa this autumn. The talented centre faces stiff competition from a formidable lineup, including the Australia trio of Harry Grant, Tom Trbojevic and Isaah Yeo, as well as Tonga captain Addin Fonua-Blake and New Zealand speedster Keano Kini.

If Farnworth were to emerge victorious, he would become just the sixth English player in history to claim the prestigious Golden Boot award. The exclusive club of English Golden Boot winners includes the legendary quartet of Ellery Hanley, Garry Schofield, Andy Farrell, and Kevin Sinfield, as well as the more recent recipient, Tommy Makinson.

The Golden Boot award was founded in 1985 by the British magazine Open Rugby and has since evolved under the management of League Publications Ltd and the International Rugby League. The award’s criteria have also shifted, with the focus now solely on international performances within a given calendar year.

As rugby league enthusiasts eagerly await the announcement of the 2024 Golden Boot winner in early December, all eyes will be on Herbie Farnworth and his quest to cement his place in the sport’s prestigious history.
