Rugby League Enthusiasts Rejoice: Betfred Challenge Cup Unveils Exciting New Structure for 2025
According to the latest announcement from Rugby League Commercial, the prestigious Betfred Challenge Cup will undergo a revamped structure starting in 2025. The changes aim to reinvigorate the early rounds of the competition and maintain the growing momentum witnessed in recent years.
The key highlights of the new format include:
- The 12 Betfred Super League clubs joining the “Road to Wembley” at the Third Round stage.
- The Third Round draw, to be held in January before the Super League season commences, will be seeded to ensure each Super League club faces one of the 20 Second Round winners.
This new approach promises greater opportunities for clubs from the Betfred Championship, League One, and even the community game to secure a coveted home tie against top-flight opposition. The Fourth Round will be played in March, followed by the Quarter Finals in April and the Semi Finals on the weekend of May 10-11, culminating in the 2025 Betfred Challenge Cup Final on June 7.
“We believe this new structure for the Betfred Challenge Cup will deliver a number of benefits to the competition and to the sport as a whole.” – Rhodri Jones, Managing Director of RL Commercial
The Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final will once again take place at Wembley Stadium on June 7, alongside the Betfred Wheelchair Challenge Cup Final, which is scheduled for the weekend of May 31.
Rugby enthusiasts can look forward to an electrifying 2025 Betfred Challenge Cup, with the new format promising increased excitement and a greater opportunity for clubs from all levels to etch their names in the storied history of this prestigious competition.
