The Second Women’s Masters Rugby League Festival Celebrates Growth and Inclusivity
The second Women’s Masters Rugby League Festival took place over the weekend, with Leyland Warriors hosting another successful event. Over 50 players from five different teams competed, showcasing the remarkable growth in this social variant of the sport.
“The ability to run a Women’s-only Masters Rugby League event demonstrates the growth in the game over the last two years. It also highlights the inclusivity of Rugby League, proving that age is not a limiting factor.” – Mina Patel, the Women’s Masters Officer
The festival had a vibrant family atmosphere, and attendees even had the opportunity to pose for photos with the major Rugby League trophies, courtesy of Wigan Warriors. The sunny weather further contributed to the event’s resounding success.
The spirit of Masters Rugby League was on full display, with larger squads supporting others by mixing up to ensure games remained at 13 a side. The event also raised over £1,200 for the chosen charities, MNDA and BabyBeat.
The Next Stop: Yorkshire Masters Festival
The next stop for the Women’s Masters events is the Yorkshire Masters Festival, scheduled for July 6th and hosted by Doncaster Toll Bar.
Masters Rugby League is a social version of the sport for players aged 35+ for Men’s Masters and 30+ for Women’s Masters. The aim is to provide enjoyment, fitness benefits, and social aspects while engaging in a modified version of Rugby League tailored for the “older player.” Those interested in participating can contact their local clubs, which can be found on the Masters RL page.
