Stormers Encounter a Setback in Glasgow Warriors Clash
The DHL Stormers traveled to Scotstoun Stadium in search of a third consecutive semi-final berth, but instead, they will return to Cape Town, ruing a missed opportunity as they were defeated by the Glasgow Warriors 27-10.
In a challenging encounter, the Stormers’ players gave a mixed performance, with both standout displays and disappointing showings. Veteran loosehead Brok Harris, rated a 4, faced a tough battle against Scotland international Zander Fagerson, often coming out second best. Springbok hooker Joseph Dweba, rated a 5, struggled with the stiff breeze, leading to inconsistencies in his line-out throwing.
On the positive side, Frans Malherbe, rated a 6, put in a solid shift at the scrum, while Salmaan Moerat, the team’s skipper, had some key defensive moments despite receiving a yellow card. Ruben van Heerden, rated a 7, was the strongest carrier in the pack for the Stormers.
Utility forward Ben-Jason Dixon, rated a 7, continued to impress with his hard-hitting work ethic, while Hacjivah Dayimani, also rated a 7, stood out with his breakdown work, completing a pair of crucial turnovers.
However, the Stormers were let down by their kicking game, with Manie Libbok, rated a 4, having a disastrous evening from the tee, missing 10 crucial points. Center Dan du Plessis, rated a 4, also struggled to contain the Scottish international duo of Tuipulotu and Jones.
Suleiman Hartzenberg, rated a 7, was once again the main threat in the Stormers’ backline, showcasing his willingness to get involved in the action. Warrick Gelant, rated a 6, handled the wet and slippery conditions well, with his kicking game providing the team with much-needed field position.
Replacement scrumhalf Paul de Wet, rated an 8, made an immediate impact, scoring a try and making a crucial tackle to stop a Warriors try. However, the Stormers’ comeback efforts ultimately fell short as they were unable to overcome the resilient Glasgow Warriors.
